About
Mihai Tudor Nistor, also know as Mistor, is a young talented DJ and Producer from Cluj Napoca, Romania that at the age of just 23 has already started to actively contribute to the dance music scene in and around his home town.
He started playing music at private parties at the age of 16 using the Atomix Virtual DJ software and carrying around his huge home PC to all the parties playing Electro and Progressive. Later, in 2007, under the name of DJ SoulPlay, he started learning to play on CD players at the OSCAR club, which was the place to be for underground House and Techno music at that time. Here he had the chance to play numerous warmup and afterhour sets and was always one of the first and last people in the club. He had sets in line-ups with Pagal, Rhadoo, Optick and other local djs. During this time he begins to discover Deep House, Techno and Minimal through artists like Tiefschwrz, SWAT Squad, Minilogue, Loco Dice, Francois Dubois (aka Funk D Void), Trentemoller, Radio Slave and Marco Carola, to name a few.
Around the end of 2007, the love for music, the self recognition of his talent and the desire of making a career out of his extreme passion push him to decide on enrolling into the award winning Point Blank Music College in London, UK. Once in London he felt he was on the right path and, for a period of 15 months, he gathered knowledge of the highest level in the art of mixing, producing as well as managing music. During this time, he was recognized as being one of the most talented DJs to ever walk the steps of Point Blank and this helped him get gigs at clubs and bars around London such as Anam, Hidden, 93 Feet East, The Plumtree, Barcosa, Monty's Lounge and at Ministry of Sound as a last minute replacement act.
Due to the financial crisis, Mistor was forced to return to Romania in the spring of 2009. Once back home, he started to catch the ears of the local public with his first big party on the top of Iulius Shopping Mall at Quartz Terrace, party which served a launching pad for greater things to come.
In the summer of 2009 he is called to play at Club Midi in the same line-up as start DJ James Lavelle of UNKLE.
In August 2009, together with his childhood friend, Adel Prigoana, thought out the Beat Brigade party concept at the open air Rustiq Terrace that was situated right outside Cluj Napoca. Here he played sets along side his close friends Raul Roquez, Paul K, Just D Light, Akos and Liquid.
During this time, his experience and the will to learn transformed him into a true music research machine. This helped him to discover the roots of House and Techno music, bringing about a significant change in his playing style, adopting a more complex musical spectrum with vintage, warm and heavily rhythmic sounds. This is the time when his fascination with the Roland TR-909 starts.
After the summer had gone, he was offered a resident position at the small Little Seven club in Cluj, where he started getting a taste of the afterhour parties, having Herodot, Jeefo and even the father of Jesus Loved You Record Label - Valentino Kanzyani as DJ guests.
Feeling the need for change, together with his friend Loopson, he moved to the freshly opened Dot Club to promote larger and better afterhour parties, thus establishing a powerful role in the local scene. His parties had as guest DJs : Masomenos, James Lavelle, Herodot, PTC, Jeefo, Gescu, Arthuro, Loopson. During this time, Mistor discovers the Dub Techno genre through Dario Zenker and his record label Ilian Tape. This would bring about more openness in Mistor's way of seeing and playing music.
At the start of 2010, Mistor is regularly called to play at the Midi Club (#1 in Romania - according to Beatfactor, #25 in the world - according to DJ Mag) in the Lounge area besides the resident Mihigh and his friend Raul Roquez at parties like Opening Party w/ Satoshi Tomie, Beardyman and event of the year 2010 at Midi - Richie Hawtin.
In May 2010 the Beat Brigade season starts once again where he will be resident for the whole summer.
With the mentality of a musical visionary and a unquenchable thirst for succes, there is no doubt that this you Romanian talent will have a bright future in music. He has always been different than the DJs around him and has managed to gather qute a following . His sound is in a continuous process of refinement and he now plays a mixture of new and old, Techno, House and Dub
