Milo Moraes “My Way to Techno”
Maybe his biography is short and his discography even shorter, but the more impressive is his drive, skills, ambition, charisma, enthusiasm, knowledge of music and will to entertain. This drive and ambition ended up in winning the prestigious TWSTD DJ Contest in the Netherlands. A success indeed, but specially since one knows that Milo Moraes is one of the first non-Amsterdam DJ to win this price ever. The preliminary rounds are judged by a qualified jury as well as the audience, making it so almost every year Amsterdam artists go on to the finals. Yet this year Milo made it through the preliminaries and astonished friend and foe with his skills and knowledge of music.
Now in total 3 years after picking up spinning he has won the renowned TWSTD DJ Contest, has residencies at de Poema in Utrecht, Holland, The Sugarfactory in Amsterdam, Holland, is a regular at Studio 80 in Amsterdam, regular in De Winkel van Sinkel, Tivoli and Dock 154 in Utrecht, is a resident for Kranck, Doerak and Twisted 3Some events. Will he be performing at the renowned Rockit Open air Festival, Obsession Outdoor Festival and Kranck Festival this summer.
But even before this great victory Milo was a real music lover, performer, show man and DJ. Grown up in a family of real musicians to a father who is a Uruguayan hero and folk musician, Numa Moraes, he and his brothers were brought up with music. As the youngest he saw his brother perform in the biggest, best and most popular jazz and blues bands in the world, whereas he focused on schooling. After having studied Jazz at the Dutch Conservatory, he focused went on to study Nursing at the University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. Through this city and his friend he became acquainted with minimal, techhouse and techno.
At a party four years ago he saw and heard Ritchie Hawtin – Plastikman – performing. From that point on he was hooked to this sound and similar house music genres like techhouse and techno. He discovered that Utrecht had a large underground community who all loved this sound. So he found his way into the underground scene and the whole techno oriented community. After a year he decided to pick up spinning himself. In no time he developed the skills worthy to a musician, performer, DJ and top artist. With his skills and extensive training and practise he promoted himself to the clubs, events, festivals and promoters. Within 2 years he was spinning at all the famous techno clubs in the Netherlands.
Milo Moraes as the real musician he is, picked up making and producing techhouse and techno music himself. It will be soon that also his tracks will be played around the globe by fellow artists as well as himself.
The way to techno has just begun.....
