The opening track belongs to The Orb’s 2008 album ‘The Dream’, a short intro to the mix starting with ‘Les Nuits”, from one of my all time top 10 Warp album’s ‘Carboot Soul’ (1999). I couldn’t resist it and I have included another track from the same record, the gorgeous ‘Jorgé’, a bassline heaven. José González features on the 2005 album ‘Dualizm’ by the incredibly talented Jori Hulkkonen who was one of the first producers to spot the now popular singer song-writer. I first knew of Sian Alice Group when they opened for Florence and the Machine this year, they are quite an interesting and haunting band from London which have remixed a track by Choir of Young Believers, a danish guy called Jannis Noya Makrigiannis. Another record you should listen to if you haven’t done it yet, it’s Studio’s 2007 album ‘West Coast’, it’s wonderful. One of the members of this swedish duo is D. Lissvik who has done some of the coolest music in the past five years. Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve are Erol Alkan and Balearic man par excellence Richard Norris, who is also half responsible for the early 90s classic track ‘Floatation’ with Dave Ball (Soft Cell), just plain beautiful. The track they remixed here is by shoegaze band Midlake from their 2006 album ‘The trials of Van Occupanther’, highly addictive and one of the best remixes I’ve ever listened to. Ripperton’s ‘The Sandbox’ steps up the tempo a gear. His new album ‘Niwa’ is an essential buy for the current year. ‘Last night’ by Pompougnac is extracted from a Pschent sampler that celebrated Midem’s 40th Anniversary in 2006. More current tracks come by Crystal Fighters and Beth Ditto from The Gossip joining forces with Simian Mobile Disco. ‘In the summer’ remix is outstanding and so far unreleased while the genius of Maurice Fulton polishes ‘Cruel Intentions’ to perfection. This is the first mix of the 2010 sessions forthcoming on soundcloud. Enjoy the rest of the summer.
