When we played in Den Haag last week I met up afterwards with some friends, including Miranda who has followed The Waterboys since 1985. I always enjoy seeing Miranda and getting to hang out a little with her. We were talking about a concert long ago at The Melkweg in Amsterdam when someone took our picture together, and we both remembered it as a great show.

So specially for Miranda, here's the version of This Is The Sea from that night, played by the Still Burning band - James Hallawell (keyboards), Ian McNabb (bass), Gavin 'Fingers' Ralston (guitar) & Geoff Dugmore (drums). I'm on lead guitar and vocals.

an album, I should say, a cassette tap of Fishermans Blues that I found in a second hand shop in Calgary got me through a year of art school, thanks Waterboys!

This is one if the only versions of This Is The Sea that I have heard without Steve playing violin on. It reminds me of an old bootleg from The Hollywood Bowl circa 1984 that I had. Marvellous version. Thanks for posting Mike.

Absolutely, without a doubt, my favourite song of all time. The soul is given wings and you have struck a chord deep within me with this wonderful gift that has filled me to tears of both joy and sadness for years. It is nothing short of transformative.

Hi Mike, Steve shared one of your songs which got me listening to other ones here. I was reading you like to read comments so decided I would share with you a reply I just wrote on Facebook where, in reply to me posting your clip someone responded you have a great voice and I agreed - and I went on to say: Mike's voice is indeed amazing and has grown on me more and more over the years. I was thinking that, in a way he reminds me of Ronnie Drew (from the Dubliners) - Ronnie was/is like the voice of Dublin and the songs he sung, wow, Ronnie just blew me away. And it's the same with Mike, he so uniquely makes a song his own (and his ability to write incredible lyrics too, wow) Mike's singing is 'legendary' in his way too - an incredible musician and singer and LOL it always makes me smile when you hear his Scots accent (the voice of my home, great to hear an accent you relate to..). So, as Ronnie makes me think of Dublin, so Mike makes me think too of all that's good from Edinburgh (Scotland) and pretty much Ireland too, all that and so much more conveyed in a voice - yes, in short, I LOVE MIKE'S SINGING, HIS MUSIC, HIS LYRICS!

What a most splendid wig-out! Love it when musicians get so caught up in the magic that they seem to be no longer in the driving seat.

I've been there with Serge and the concert was excellent. So was the Fisherman's Blues concert at Vredenburg in Utrecht and Enschede. Best concerts ever!
I wish, i wish.... Everlasting arms or The Stolen Child or, or... Keep up the magic work mr. Scott. Thanks for the beautifull music straight from the heart.
