"Tales From The Igloo" is the result of almost 13 years of experimenting with electronic sounds & genre juggling while constantly redefining & perfecting my vision which draws from many influences..
Growing up I was introduced to the sweeping epics of John Barry & to the spooky alien sounds of the radiophonic
workshop's "Dr Who" theme, in the early 80's the obvious electro boom caught my attention & in the late 80's it was the rise of acid house & techno also had a deep impact on my musical taste. In the early nineties a deeper passion for all things electronic created a greater desire for me to start producing my own music, which I embarked on in 1996..
On the creative process I prefer to start with a blank canvas & I usually start by editing & creating sounds on my synths until I find sounds that inspire me, I find this process much more gratifying than sampling other peoples material, even the distant call of a distressed animal on "Hidden Landscape" was created on my supernova II synthesizer. I usually record all the basic elements or "sketch" into the digital environment where I then arrange mix & further manipulate the original elements until I sculpt & shape it into a final piece, this procees was used extensively on 'Tales From The Igloo"
The Concept or theme of "Tales From The Igloo" developed from the name of my home studio, with the idea of music coming from such an unlikely place like an igloo located deep in an isolated & almost inhospitable place seemed to act as a metaphor for the music which was being created in a quiet unsuspecting Dublin suburb..
The Material on "Tales From The Igloo" is a collection of pieces created between 2005 & 2008 which were carefully chosen to display my deeper, atmospheric & more emotional side which blends ambient, electro, techno, dub & experimentalism to create a unique mixture of various moods, from the furthest outpost of distant galaxies on "Gateway Station" while returning to earth gracefully with the soulful electro blues of "Melting Emotion" to the disturbing dark environmental tones of "Disturbed Earth" & "Hypothermia".
The albums also includes a remix by Pentatonik of "The Final Storm" which is part of the "Departure" EP series on nice & nasty records..
Tales From The Igloo is released on july 3rd..
