Seeds

When you crush a seed, you might as well be crushing a tree. When you brush a seed with the windshield of your car, you might be moving an entire tree at least one hundred feet. Trees get pretty heavy, but when they're seeds you can move them easily.

Seeds are potentials.

When you carry a gun or a knife, you're carrying the seed of violent suffering, a sobbing brother, sister, mother and father. When you carry a grudge, you're carrying the seeds of frustration, distrust and misunderstanding.

All of the time seeds are being pressed into your world. What will they sprout into? Habits? Will they find the nutrients they need? Are you planting the eggs of a parasite that leeches on your mind in exchange for its empty rewards? Are you cultivating something that helps you live a better life?

When you speak you plant seeds into the ears that hear your voice. What kinds of thoughts and feelings do your words grow to become? What energies do they require to grow? Where do they take root?

At any rate, if you are a careful farmer, you might find yourself in the middle of a beautiful garden some day.
