"I think it's time for something different."
2011 marks the 13th Anniversary of New York-based Mark Venneri's involvement in the electronic music industry. From his humble start as a teen experimenting with cheap cassette decks, keyboards and mixers to the more complex, lush and layered sounds of his music today, he has always been considered an innovator by both critics and fans alike. He first discovered the underground scene after stumbling upon an early Philadelphia warehouse rave in early 1991, and has been reshaping his musical future ever since.
Mark's earliest roots established him as a bedroom DJ. During the 1990's, he played parties and club nights throughout the midwestern United States. He also helped organize and promote a variety of events as part of a select collective of local DJs. From 1996-1998, he hosted his own college-radio show on KCOU 88.1 entitled "Grooveshop" and began to quickly build a dedicated fanbase.
In 1998, Mark decided to take his unique sound to the international masses with a self-produced EP. He marketed the release on his own Private Reality Records, promoting it at the Winter Music Conference in Miami the same year. In 2000, he moved to New York City and began establishing the foundation for the next phase of his musical journey with the introduction of his newly-formed artist moniker Madoka.
During this period, Mark spent an entire year refining the direction of his music, focusing on the quality of his new productions. He materialized some solid ideas by spring 2001, and the creative restructuring resulted in his "MyCity" demo. As a result of shopping around "MyCity" to select labels and DJs, he received valuable feedback, including a call from Plastic Fantastic Records in the UK. They seized the opportunity and signed a song called “Dive." The tune would eventually be paired with a Moshic and Zidan remix for international release. Mark used the accomplishment as creative fuel. With a solid effort now under his belt and mass appeal building, he continued to develop his production style.
In early 2002, Mark was thrilled to accept the opportunity of a lifetime for his Private Reality imprint, announcing a P&D agreement with 3 Beat Label Management UK, encompassing all future releases and becoming part of the group’s impressive stable of leading labels.
For the next five years, Mark delivered a continuous stream of original Madoka singles and remixes which found homes on a variety of record labels, including Deep, Deep Focus, SAW, Definity, ShineMusic, Babylon and Mo-Do. His music was featured on several compilations such as Max Graham's "Shine," Trendroid's "Transport," Andy Jarrod's "Vapourized Volume 3," Steve Gerrard's "Thinking Out Loud" and Kazell's "Driven." His success continued as his now-classic single "Metamotional" found its way onto one of 2006's most critically-acclaimed compilations: Ben Watts' "Buzzin' Fly, Volume 3." The song maintained a year of heavy rotation from Watt that initially began with his Radio One "Essential Mix" from February 2005.
In October 2004, Mark turned his attention from his vinyl endeavor with Private Reality to the digital domain. He launched his new label called "Metamotional Music," named in honor of his earlier critically-acclaimed masterpiece.
2005 re-ignited Mark's passion for performing and marked his return to the DJ arena. He began playing some of the finest international rooms in Tokyo, Amsterdam, Turkey, Bulgaria, Vienna, New York and Jacksonville Beach. With each event, Mark continued to develop the Madoka brand with his self-described "Saturated Sound."
In 2007, Mark released his first full-length Madoka album on Metamotional entitled "A Cure for Loneliness." The album featured a fresh set of 8 original songs, immediately setting a new standard for the label.
Mark has recently revamped his studio and has been working on new material, excited to introduce his more refined Madoka sound in 2011.
