“Memeshift is the musical project of Morgan Sully. By merging the melodic optimism of early 90’s electronic acts like Orbital and Plaid with the nostalgic textures of more recent artists like Nathan Fake and Chris Clark, Morgan composes cinematic electronic music for the post-apocalyptic hipster.
While his produced work reflects the softer, more melancholy melodies of his musical aspirations, his live and djed shows cross over into darker, funkier trajectories of minimal techno and tech-house.
From illegal outdoor parties in Bay Area forests to cafes, galleries, bars and nightclubs in San Diego and Mexico, Morgan has djed and performed original electronic music in venues throughout the Western United States.
Morgan has also headlined alongside seminal electronic artists like Jega (Planet Mu, Matador), Tom Burbank (Planet Mu), El Poeta (imputor?), dj Jon Baker (Brokenbeat, Frik n’ Frak), Louis Haiman (Transmat, fwdthought), Disrupter (disruptermusic), Miguel Vega (AccentFeed), and Marcos Fernandes (Accretions, Trummerflora). Morgan has also produced music for a variety of events, local documentaries, and even an independent feature film.
Having recently composed, recorded and mastered Memeshift’s first demo, Morgan will be touring Europe with shows in England, Holland and Norway this summer of 2009.”
That pipe sound reverse thingy is sweet. Uh.
fuck yeah. sci fi. retro. dig it. this would be great live...
@electracomplex: yeah, you guessed it. That's the Micron. I love that thing but don't use it enough. That particular patch is slightly altered from one of the base patches - might have been the 'Vanilla Pad' - love that one.
@2ndMOUSE: yay! yeah, totally a happily blatant reference there - they're what got me into making electronic music in the first place:)
@2ndMOUSE: yeah, this part i had fun with. It was improvised by simply adjusting the the Pitch Shift using the up/down arrow and number keys on my keyboard (for an Ableton clip)
totally danceable. I used to do live electronic improv for a dance class and it was always wonderful - modern dance, never quite new what to expect. the instructor would just kind of give me a 'feel' for what she was expecting. P.S. I subscribe to CDM in my feed reader. love it and recommend to all my friends!
already feckin bangin here
love that lil drippy sound here
nice groove here
yes! that clap sound kicks it.
especially this bridge here. totally nostalgic.
love the melody that comes in here. Reminds me oddly of those movies 'Labyrinth', 'Legend' or some Vangelis track.
fuck yeah! this is sick!
really like those two little ones right before the big one here too
really like these notes that come in. sparse, nice.
oh man. You guys rock. I actually love the original. This track is totally fun. Cheers!
