About
Originally a musician and audio engineer from Washington, D.C., in 1991 Mauby moved to lower Haight in San Francisco, CA. There, he immersed himself in the music / DJ scene and recorded his first album on a Marantz 4-track.
After moving around, he settled in Portland, OR. A job as record buyer at Everyday Music led him to a full-time DJ residency at the Tiger Bar. Flying to gigs on the west coast, Mauby shared the stage with Mark Farina, ROMANOWSKI, Mauricio Aviles, Norman Jay, Andy Smith, Mike Bee & DJ Sureshot to name a few. Mauby was also 1/3 of the live weekly group "Dahlia" at the Ohm lounge.
Mauby was the co-founder of the weekly 5 hour radio program "After Hours Sound Box" on Portland's KBOO 90.7 FM from 1997-2000. His co-host Deena Barnwell is still on the air today. Segments of the program included Chicago's DJ Renan, Jumbo the Garbageman and Rev. Shines (of the Lifesavas on Quannum Projects) with a call-in game show called "Beat Jeopardy" & the legendary Pauly Paul spinning old school and electro. Their program engineer was the legendary King Fader!
After Portland, it was off to San Diego with producer and friend Pauly Paul to re-locate their label A Mile Underground Productions. A new studio was built and they recorded several hip hop artists including the Delta 9 MCs, and Spontanious (Good Vibes Records). Pauly Paul and Mauby also produced downtempo and electronica under the monkier "Headspace".
Mauby continues to DJ, hosting the monthly all-vinyl soul/funk/rare groove/boogie event "AISLE 45" at the Elbo Room. He is also forming a new funk group called "Hustle Agency".
