Back in 2001, I was doing all of Virgin Interactive's online marketing. They were putting out a game called Lotus Challenge - a cool stunt driving adventure for (ye olde) PS2. They wanted to get Oakenfold to do the soundtrack, but he was too expensive, so they asked a Welsh band called Hybrid. Now, for those of you who don't know, Hybrid are flippin' amazin', and one of my favourite bands ever. Naturally I was fairly chuffed that Oakey was ditched, and I suggested we do an online remixer to promote the game, so I could craftily get my hands on the master tracks for some of Hybrid's stuff to see how they make such killer tunes.

Anyway, the track I got was called "Joyrider"; Hybrid created it specially for the game and it's rather cool. I wanted to give it a dirtier feel, so I added a warm, fuzzy string section (which was pretty risky, given Hybrids awesome reputation for the orchestral), a few more synth elements and some crazy Bass Station at the end. Oh and I dropped the piano arpeggios, as they felt a little... unaggressive.

I spoke to Distinctive (Hybrid's record label) about picking up my mix. They weren't interested (which was fair enough).

At the game's launch party I was too chicken shit to talk to Hybrid. Probably should have had more beer. :(

The online remixer I made was totally rad, though.
