Originally from Aurora, Colorado, Markeisha is a NYC based singer/songwriter, pianist, actress and teaching artist. Her dynamic, soulful voice has been compared to early Whitney Houston and Gladys Knight. An accomplished songwriter, she recently released her debut album Ready and two songs from that album received an honorable mention in the Billboard World Songwriting Contest. She has performed in NYC at The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall and Sullivan Hall, among others. She has also shared the stage with R&B artist Angie Stone, appeared on “It’s Showtime at the Apollo” and performed at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. Markeisha is also a proud member of LIFEbeat’s Hearts and Voices Program, bringing music to people living with HIV/AIDS. As an actress, Markeisha has appeared in many NYC and regional stage productions and was most recently seen as The Radio in Caroline, or Change at the Gallery Players in Brooklyn. She is currently performing with her band and recording songs for her second album.
