About

DJ Mark Zabala began his career in 1999 in the forests and deserts of Southern California. After five successful years of contributing to a vibrant community of dancers who would drive hours to experience music that felt truly transcendental, he was recruited by the Ninja Skillz crew to bring some of the outdoor vibe to clubs, themed warehouse events and outdoor festivals.

His passion for music has taken him through a journey that has led him through nearly every electronic music genre. Now, his current sound can be described as a fusion of all the best that each style has to offer. His current "tech-funk" soundtakes the syncopated grooves of house and breaks, the bass of electro and dubstep, the timbres of techno and psytrance, the atmospheres and emotions of progressive, the splintered cuts and arrangements of idm and drum n bass, and they are fused together and presented in a way that matches and enhances the environment he is playing in.

He has risen to the forefront of the Los Angeles EDM with successful appearances at major LA nightclubs like Spundae @ Circus, Giant @ Vanguard, four desert oasis festivals, The Alma Paradiso on Catalina Island, The Elysium Midsummer Festival, The Hollywood Palladium, several "Decompression" events in California and Nevada, and several years on multiple stages and art cars at the annual Burning Man festival. His love for events also resulted in long-running club nights such as the Forbidden Series in Chinatown, and the Fable events at the Medusa. He has played on lineups with DJs such as Sasha, Meat Katie, The Crystal Method, Luke Fair, Filthy Rich, and many others.

Mark Zabala is also known for his tag-team project with DJ divaDanielle called "Karate Skillz" whose infectious energy has totally decimated many dancefloors.

Catch him at this year's Lightning in a Bottle presented by The Do Lab.
