About

Marcus Zuhr is an award nominated Canadian composer who has scored award winning films such as HOPE (CBC), A KILLING STRAIN (NBC), and BATTLE OF THE BAGPIPES (CBC, Knowledge Network). He’s an extremely versatile writer, eloquently capturing both the grandiose and the intimate in his pieces. Marcus employs romanticist techniques in his composing while still holding simple melody as paramount. He has a wide range of professional writing experience with published works spanning traditional orchestral music for films and video games to electronic dance music pieces released on multiple British record labels.

Marcus’ debut score was for HOPE, directed by Thomas Buchan and produced by the National Film Board of Canada and CBC. The film was nominated for multiple awards (including the prestigious Leo Awards for best picture) and went on to win many of them. Marcus’ next score was NBC’s horror film A KILLING STRAIN (directed by Daniel Maldonado), for which he garnered his first nomination for “Best Score” from the L.A. Screamfest Film Festival. Next was BATTLE OF THE BAGPIPES (another award winner by Thomas Buchan), which represented a polar opposite in musical style from the previous A Killing Strain. Following this was THE COCKUMENTARY, THE ATTIC (which took best experimental film at the NYCIFF), and BREAKING THE ACTOR. Finally, Marcus’s scored his largest project to date, as well as his first worldwide theatrical release, HELLBOUND? by Kevin Miller (Sex+Money, spOILed, With God On Our Side, Hakani: A Survivor’s Story, Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed and After…).

Recent game projects for Marcus include indie games SIRA (Arsenic Playground), AURORA (Solstice Studios, unpublished), ORION: PRELUDE, and THE DARK MOD. Marcus’s has also scored larger IP titles including PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ONLINE (Disney) and THE GHOST WHISPERER (Legacy Interactive).

Amongst his current advertising clients are Gap, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Royal Bank of Canada, The Canadian Football League (CFL), Global Zero (www.globalzero.org), Strangeloop Networks, The Vancouver Aquarium and TAXI Advertising.

Marcus’ has also had label releases collaborating with world renowned Justin Moreh of the Shiloh brothers, under Baroque Records. Together their electronic dance/disco infused music has seen radio play worldwide.

Marcus Zuhr is represented by Bob Rice of Four Bars Intertainment, Jordan Passman of ScoreAScore for film, and Hunyamunya Publishing.
