About

I've lived in Toronto, Canada since 1994, but originally I'm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I've performed in many bands in both cities, including Prehistoric Cavestrokers (absurdist garage/punk), Global Citizens (alternative rock), Yolassi (alternative pop), The Wanted (country) and currently am in Spacecraft 7 (garage rock). While I'm most knowledgeable about 60s-70s classic rock, garage rock, psychedelia, progressive rock, and punk from the late 70s to early 80s, I also like many other styles of music ranging from Balkan folk music, delta and Chicago blues, free jazz, and classical (including contemporary). The songs/demos on this site were recorded using Garageband software in my small apartment usually shortly after coming up with the idea; the quality therefore may not be professional and the execution may sometimes fall short, but the enthusiasm for music is there and I'm still pleased with the results.

This is the companion of my other Slavic parody,"Russia Song". I also used to have one called "Yugopunk Lives even though Yugoslavia has Gone Ka-put" that I may have to revive/record soon.

Very nice Jackie, "Dirt Painted Over" is a good image. Great harmonies - are you doing them on another track, or do you have some people accompanying you? Also, I like the keyboard sound you got.

Great job guys. I especially like the dual guitars around the 4:30 mark, the organ (or organ sounding keyboard), and upper range with lower range vocals earlier in the song.

I like it. Again, great job on the lead vocals and very nice harmonies. Did you overdub the harmonies, or was it someone else who you had sing them?

Excellent song Bill. I like the precise bass playing, brass parts and the drumming is well thought out. I like your vocals -- you have your own sound.

@1st50: I agree with The Smokable. You already have a reggae like groove with the piano part. This reminds me a bit of "Message of Music", a melodic, reggae influenced song from the early 80s by Chas Jenkel, who I think was the pianist for Ian Drury and the Blockheads.

I like the murky reverb and yes, the fuzz guitar. This song reminds me a bit of The Swell Maps, an off the wall UK group from the late 70s - early 80s.

Hi Martin, very enjoyable. Thanks for the memories. I actually remember this tune from CJAM. Reminds me of Gang of Four meets the Residents and collides with Mark E. Smith. If you're still in touch with Velcro Ripper, I think he may have a video from this shot in our 2nd year Communication Studies television lab.

I would never have thought that punk and Celtic folk, or distorted rhythm guitar and mandolin and penny whistle would combine well, but you guys prove that it can be done effectively.

@joespiro: Yeah, I would agree that this section is a bit reminscent of Ennio Morricone, but also some early 60s cowboy TV show, perhaps Gunsmoke.

Beautiful melancholic piece. I like the contrast between the slow legato string section (which would sound great on a mellotron) and the pizzicato, plucked string instrument (cello or string bass?)

Excellent song. I like the minor key, middle eastern flavour, the wah-wah pedal guitar, the violins, and your clear, uncontrived vocals, which remind me a bit of David Brock from Hawkwind.
