    "Questions and Answers" is a six-part composition for piano and recordings of John Cage answering questions about his music and art. In part 3 Cage describes how Robert Rauschenberg's "White Paintings" inspired his composition 4'33'' in which the performers play nothing and let ambient sounds create the music. For "Empty Paintings" I recorded 88 piano strings being plucked or scraped and then paired individual strings with spoken words containing the letter O. Some spoken phrases were omitted, leaving only the piano sounds. All pairings and omissions were determined by chance methods using dice and playing cards.
