Sam Tiba comes from Northern France, like his Club Cheval peers, and has been producing and playing extreme beat music for three years. After his Barbie Weed track on Top Billin in 2010, here's his new release : its called Black Eyed Weed, and it's on Marble. This is basically an EP dedicated to the ghetto music subgenres Sam has been obsessively listening to for a few years : juke and B-More, of course, plus ballroom, jersey music, jerk or coupé-décalé. But the music he delivers on this EP is not barely derivative : rather than just emulating this or that particular gimmick, Sam builds his own gimmicks, articulates his own grammar, coming from his very own ghetto microgenres. And the result is a bold phantasmagoria of radical dance styles, entirely deprived of melodies : just beats, cuts, fx and bass.

Zig Zag is an angular, spliffed-out groove. Hypnotic, bass-heavy and sparse, it shows dancers new spaces to move in new ways and suggests a hypothetic Parisian ballroom scene. Trick Trick is even more disorienting : UK rave analog washes meet dysfunctional kicks and snares, following a pedestrian, yet malevolent pace. That's Tiba in heavy mindfucking mode, thanks to amnesia haze. And finally, 420 is an absurdist, screwed and chopped electrofunk beat interrupted by rap cut-ups, faux-darkcore synth lines and creepy whistles. Made for stoned, claustrophile dancers. Anyway, just remember one thing if you can still activate your memory functions : this is probably the freakiest Marble release so far, and Sam Tiba has plenty of freakiness left.
