2011 has been a tremendously busy year for Para One, aka Jean-Baptiste de Laubier : with his buddies Surkin and Bobmo, he launched the Marble imprint, on which he released various collaborations with Tekilatex, Das Glow and the aforementioned Surkin and Bobmo as Marble Players, then reunited with Tacteel to work on brand new tracks and stunning live shows, and was asked by turntablists-turned-electrohunks Birdy Nam Nam to produce Defiant Order, their third album. Not to mention numerous remixes and finishing his second solo album. This EP, "Mother/Compute (feat. Surkin)/Mother (Mr Oizo remix)", is made of one track ("Mother") that'll appear on this soon-to-come long-player, and of two EP-only tunes. It’s all about masculine feelings, spontaneous catharsis and high-powered technology.
« Mother » sounds », well, like a mothership – a massive one – taking off some ill-designed planet where mute monsters and passive-agressive attitudes lead the show. A roaming, yet slamming electrofunk beat is motoring the celestial vehicle, and drexciyan synths make room for a brief techno kickdrum. Ectoplasmic vocals express some malevolent, intimate feelings. A down-spirited epic with a robotic drive.

« Compute », featuring Surkin, spends all its time « acting out », as defined by psychoanalysis : an invasive Beltram-esque « mentasm » riff rules the game, and works the beat like a hyperactive child. This is pretty much it : pure negative energy rocking out of one’s soul, cleansing every emotional pore with gangsta techno beats and synths.

There’s finally a Oizo remix of « Mother », making the original’s atmosphere a little goofier and casual, but the creepy vibe is still there. Expect percussive nonsensical sequences and peculiar sound syntax, in a classic (or not) Oizo mode. The original mother changes into this embarrassing auntie from a middle-sized country town with weird interior design tastes.
