We are the French Embassy Trio and our music of choice is Gypsy Jazz. The style originated in Paris, France when by sheer luck a violinist named Stephane Grappelli and a guitarist named Django Reinhardt met while at an informal jam session at the Hotel Claridge in Paris in 1933. Their connection was instant and soon the Quintette Of The Hot Club Of France was born. The improvisational virtuosity of both Reinhardt and Grappelli was staggering. Their unique blend of gypsy rhythm, style and instrumentation with American Jazz was the first truly European form of the music to emerge since Jazz had landed on the European shores. Their influence is still felt today as strongly as ever.
Our repertoire includes many of the great standards from this genre including Minor Swing, Douce Ambiance, Nauge etc. We also rework more contemporary tunes in this style and play a number of original compositions.
