This is a great tune and one that has slipped my mind. I need to remember it now.
I like the tone you are getting. Oval hole?
Some pretty powerful warming up there. Beautiful chords.
Not an easy feat to pull off, the fretless banjo. Sounds great.
Sorry--cut me off. Awesome job, and truly ambitious to take it on. I'd say you have it. When I hear that last track in "Stomp" it gets my pulse racing.
Awesome job, and a
An absolute favorite of mine too. It just rolls forward.
Some strong banjo on this one. Like it--nice to hear some singing too.
Ole Dr. Ralph out to be ashamed. :)
The open chords you went to there really worked.
This is an excellent song. Our banjo player has been trying to get Dawn to work it up awhile now.
Another nice break, and cool to double it up. This is a short song so might as well.
We played a festival at an old grist mill this weekend. My 95 year old Grandfather there. Gen-u-ine mountain man. Said he had actually brought corn down from the mountain to be milled there when the grist mill was functional and not just a novelty. Said he put all the real money-maker--the liquid corn-- beneath the rest of the load.
I like the idea of picking up the tempo on this one. Gillian Welch's music and lyrics are powerful, but not exactly what you would consider not-to-be-trifled with canon at this point. Give her a few years. Nice break, especially the fast tremelo on the doublestops.
Didn't see that bass solo coming. Very slick.
Great job by the way.
Those Irish pick rolls always confound me. Mine is a sputtery mess.
Kudos to you for this one. I have never been able to do it any justice. It's on the White Whale list.
@WilliGoehring: Pretty sure from my friend Josh Johnson, who is the fiddler on all of our recordings. Strong Missouri/Ozark style.
Ah, I can see the comment now. Cool.
An excellent version of this--I like the rhythm much more than the fashion it is currently done in. Did you source this elsewhere?
Very nice tune. I haven't heard this one in a long time but it really moves along.
I see you have made some refinements--I heard more doublestops. A fine tune and that mando is a BEAST.
Really liking what you are doing at the end of the line on the A parts. Going to try that the next time we play it to see how it blends in. I believe I like it flat better.
@Rust Machine Records: If we're speaking Comptonese, that one is "The Squirrel Hunters".
Nice mando break, Mike. Spanking it!
You guys have a great vocalist.
I like the take on this, especially when the harmony vocals come in.
Like the banjo/mando interplay right there.
Is this the Duff? Cuts like crazy. Very nice.
It always seems to bein the most random place. Most old fiddling compilations. There are tons of those out there, based on region a lot of times.
