Magick Carpet’s music defies definition, neither Indian nor Jazz; Fusion nor World Music, but a mystical blend of improvised sound. The music is rich & exotic, painted in broad strokes, built on a strong foundation of classical Indian, with overtones of traveller music, gypsy, jazz and folk, welded together with insistent, soul tingling rhythms that make the body move and the imagination fly.

Five of west Wales’s top musicians form Magick Carpet: Peter Stacey (saxophone and flute), Paul Uden (guitar), Kelly Smith (tabla and pakhawaj), Rajesh David (vocals and harmonium), Smudger Smith (tamboura). Together these five guys create an exciting fusion of styles and ideas that is unique.

Magick Carpet’s flight began in the summer of 2008, and when Rajesh David joined them in May 2009 the music attained new heights. They have played at The Big Chill, The Square Festival, The Small World Theatre, The Mulberry Bush Café and several other venues in West Wales. Every time they play the audience is transported and uplifted, at times the silence after a song is profound, then a wave of appreciative applause erupts.

Magick Carpet create feel-good music that is equally at home in a concert hall a festival, or an intimate Café. Their music expresses the 21st centuries’ fusion of cultures, courageously explores new musical frontiers and rejoices in the richness of diversity and the power of tradition.
