The first solo EP on Ghetto Division Records comes from a talented veteran of Chicago dance music, Jorge Ortega – or as he might be better known, MaddJazz. A skilled turntablist and respected producer, MaddJazz brings hard-earned experience and grounding to Ghetto Division. While he calls on his time spent trading tricks with the best of Chicago’s hip-hop scene – which placed him third in three consecutive DMC heats – MaddJazz has an ear for more trend-making fare, as the Mind of a Maddman EP clearly shows. “Everybody Move” is a great example of a fresh take on Chicago house Ghetto Division is known for, taking classic diva vocals and turning it all into a bass-heavy electro monster sure to pack a dancefloor. A constant in Ghetto Division mixes, ‘Jack Move’ is a proven crowd-pleaser, with its chopped-up alarm siren, and instant party-starter drop. Dubstep-influenced ‘Selekta Riddim’ is a bassy slow-burner, sure to test the limits of your subs and what’s more, are the amazingly diverse remixes by Figure, Proper Villains and Ultravid. Figure’s Brooklyn Fire Remix speeds it up without losing a single bit of bass, Proper Villains adds a touch of dutch house to his own unpredictable style and from Belgium, Ultravid’s standout remix sets Selekta Riddim on a proper UK funky tip. ‘Take Me Higher’ is a nod to filter disco and disco-house and as an extra special rave track, Mind of a Maddman closes out with the long-awaited release of ‘N2 The Music’, which has been featured in countless GD DJ sets and is a must-have for anyone looking for a prime example of the Ghetto Division sound.
