This is the first movement from a two movement work entitled "La Vie est Belle?" composed to honour the 60th anniversary of the death of French composer/organist Jehan Alain.
Alain has long been highly influential on my musical life, and when my wife's trio asked for another piece from me, I gladly obliged on this particular occasion. The work sometimes references elements of Alain's compositional techniques, and this movement in particular was intended to be a nostalgic, gentle echo (hence the title) of his most famous organ piece "Litanies"
Perfomed in concert by the Cameo Trio in St John's Church, Adelaide. Significantly, my wife (on piano) had, two days prior, given birth to our first son!
