About
Lostwars is the project of Dereck Blackburn, a musician and producer from Chicago, IL. Dereck has always been influenced by psychedelic rock and noise rock of the 70s through the 90s and he worked on developing a guitar style that reflected that love. Lostwars came into light in 2003, after the demise of space-rock misfits Zimmermans Note and GSPKWY. Focusing more on songwriting and sonic annhilation - Lostwars released a 10 song demo entitled "Fallmassacre" and toured the midwest out of his car to support it. Back then, a copy of BYOFL and a credit card with a $500 balance could get you far for about 2 months on the road.
In 2004, Lostwars released "Until the Fire is Out" and an EP of acoustic demos during a relocation to Boston. From these songs came a dream to focus more on the recording process and ride the faders flat out as far as he could go. During a break in making music many of these songs made it onto various compilations and the song "Waiting" was a featured on the soundtrack for the film "Mother of Mine" directed by Klaus Härö.
After concentrating on mixing and producing from 2007 - 2009, Lostwars released "Set and Ready to Destroy" and "The End of..." to critical acclaim.
Again, more moving from coast to coast and composing left little time for making rock music until 2011 when Dereck and his family settled in Massachusetts once again. Lostwars has a home now in Quiethouse Studios in Bedford, MA and you can be sure there is more music on the way.
