With recent releases and remixes on Ninja Tune, Tirk, Loungin’, Brownswood, Wah Wah 45s, First Word, Body Work and Keep Up, the production unit known as LPZ have been recently described as Latin America’s hottest export since Gisele Bundchen. And even though we are fans of the Brazilian model it’s easy to see why the Paraguayan trio has build such a reputation gaining fans from the likes of Groove Armada, Maya Jane Coles, Mr Scruff, High Contrast, Sinden, Gilles Peterson and Toddla T with their soulful music, that’s been making waves in the underground scene since their single Barrio came out in 2009, and all the way to being picked as record of the month (Disco section) on DJ Mag's May 2012 edition for their 1983 EP, as well as being number 1 in sales at Warp Records’ Bleep Portal for 2 weeks running.
It doesn’t end with the beat-making. LPZ are also prolific on the UK/European/Latin American DJ scene playing soulful underground music from House to the future side of Bass Music, creating an AV set for their recent gigs with Hexstatic and Plaid at Koko in London, plus past and forthcoming appearances at festivals such as Soundwave, Creamfields and Nova in Croatia, Argentina and the UK respectively as well as DJing alongside Luke Vibert, Bonobo, DJ Marky, Coldcut, Laurent Garnier, London Elektricity, Roots Manuva and Little Dragon. Their sets have been described as journeys from different eras of dance music, using not just the latest hot dance productions but also looking at the past for reminders of great pieces of music that influence their own output.
With numerous appearances on sites like XLR8R, Clash Magazine, Dazed & Confused Magazine and Discobelle plus an ever-growing music catalogue, the future looks more than bright for our Paraguayan Amigos with their ever expanding role of Dance Music ambassadors from the hottest country in Latin America.
