About

Lola Parks (aka singer-songwriter Sandy Powlik) is a natural talent based in Victoria, BC. From fronting a 17-piece Big Band early in her career, to being part of two original bands (rock, folk-funk), to performing solo – Lola Parks has recorded in both Canada and Nepal and she has performed for thousands of people to critical acclaim. She has performed at the Island Folk Festival, Kispiox Valley Music Festival and Victoria Jazz Fest. She has played major cities from Vancouver and Montreal to Colombo (SL) and Buenos Aires (AR), as well as rural settings from a remote hospital in Zimbabwe and a healthpost in Haiti to a four-month residency at a rafting resort in northern Nepal. With her background in jazz, rock, folk and roots, her sound appeals to a wide audience. Lola Parks won a Most Outstanding Musicianship Award in Denver, CO and has placed songs on both television and radio. She has a lot of soul - Lola is smooth and funky, her onstage presence dynamic, her songwriting compelling, her sound ever-evolving, her voice immaculate. She describes her style or genre as SOUL FOLK.

Lola Parks creates a dreamscape of sound, an aural portrait of human emotion and her songs hold nothing from an audience. Their lyrics display a masterful command of the language combined with honest, simple expression. More impressive than her songwriting skills, her voice is an instrument of pure beauty that rivals any contemporary female performer.

Armed with a fresh, new repertoire, Lola has opened for Toronto-based singer-songwriter Matthew Barber, Montreal’s NEeMA, Israeli-born YOAV and gospel & blues sensation, Ruthie Foster. Her new EP is due out in spring 2011.

It is time for the world to become better acquainted with Lola Parks.

"Lola Parks is definitely the most mature, original, soulful and honest fusion/folk act I've had the pleasure to witness... Sandy Powlik's dangerous writing and immaculate vocal stylings inspire me to get up tomorrow. Shame on media-types who miss this brilliant act." –Barry Newman, Cosmic

"Outstanding voice. You are spot on, beautiful work, perfect pitch, great lyrics delivered beautifully. Superb emotion and inflection, just as good as it gets. Brilliant!” – Barry Morgan, Talenttrove.com

“Sandy’s music comes from a place of natural beauty. Like the artist herself it sings with honesty and makes the listener move closer in hopes of capturing every note and word.” – Jeff Dawson, Producer/Engineer/Musician
