Need a gift for a gifted musician?
West London producer and lyricist, LifeLines', first love was poetry, a form of expression which had been ignited by his adoptive mothers yearly trips to the legendary poet Maya Angelou's thanksgiving functions in the US. Here he would regularly speak with the likes of Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey, unaware of the influence the heavyweights of the entertainment industry held as they were part of an audience that gave this then young boys performance a standing ovation one year.
As he hit his teenage years, his poetry naturally progressed into the conscious, thought provoking lyrics he delivers over soulful beats today. After appearing in Channel 4's '7 Days', Life has spent the last 18 months releasing his trilogy of EP's - One Love, One Hope & One Faith, bodies of work that represent the different sides to him and his music, with features from rising stars Angel, Etta Bond & Shakka to boot.
Taking influence from US pioneers J Dilla, Mos Def, Nas and Talib Kweli, LifeLine's music is a soulful blend of old school Hip Hop vibes and arresting delivery that tackles concepts and social commentary in a refreshing, mind-expanding manner, while maintaining a penchant for memorable hooks that have helped his songs resonate with audiences from all walks of life.
Completely in his own lane when it comes to UK rap, there's an immediate awareness when listening to Life that no other artist on these shores are rhyming like him and it's easy to understand why he's regularly referred to as the love child of Common and Jill Scott. Not outside the realms of possibility having been adopted alongside his twin sister.
Whichever side you choose on the Nature vs Nurture debate it's apparent that music's in Life's veins as he looks set to bring the old school back to the forefront with a new twist. With support from MTV, MOBO and other online tastemakers already at this early stage in his career, he is currently hard at work in the studio crafting his official debut release.
