That line "...for my head is bending low" seems to refer to the mid-19th century American song "Old Black Joe" which is about a servant/slave who is dying. Coincidentally, that song was also referenced by two other Coens (Joel and Ethan) in their film about depressed writer "Barton Fink". Old Black Joe was re-popularized in the mid-20th century as "Poor Old Joe" by the blacklisted artist Paul Robeson.
