Kommikal, also known as Kommi Knocker, is a bi-lingual (Maori/English) recording artist, rapper, singer and producer. He has been described as "a self-styled Kommi Knoxville" and "Raoul Duke lost in the hood". His music has been noted for its story telling content and multitudinous sound. His songs reveal his own personal experiences, tragedies, life struggles and lessons, with reference to pop culture, particularly that of the 1980s, 90's as well as present day.
Kommikal is known for his ability to experiment with any genre or style. His earlier music started off with mostly Rap Funk and Blues based tunes. He later became known for his signature haka based Hip-Hop Maori anthems. In the past he explored several musical styles from Trip-Hop, DnB and Dubstep to Reggaeton, but more recently Kommikal incorporates elements of Psuedo-Pop, Melancholy Rock, Orchestral Movie Music, synth-based electronic/new wave and Political Ska-Punk as well as Hip-Hop, resulting in what could be described as minimalistic electronic rap, organic conscious loop music through to 'acoustic spook tunes' and 'Sadcore Rap'.
Kommikal is also part of the electronic duo Rare Shot Blue with bandmate Hideto Kobayashi. He is currently the lead singer of an underground punk-rap-indie-rock band known as The Fat Muts, formerly known as The Sick Puppies and previously before that as The Cherry Tree Farmers.
