I guess my love of music came from my Grandfather and my Father. From an early age I would hear them playing on our upright piano which was kept in my bedroom until I was about 4 years old and we moved house. My Grandfather played piano in a band and he had a real passion for music. I hope he would have liked my recordings too. My first keyboard was a Bontempi chord organ and then from that I moved up to a Casiotone MT-60 which we still have in the loft somewhere. At high school I learnt to play the Saxophone, inspired by seeing Dexy's Midnight Runners perform Geno some years earlier on Top of the Pops. I found though that rather than playing to sheet music I would try and come up with my own melodies. However, after a while I lost interest in it, traded it in and with some help from my brother and my dad we bought our first synthesizer, a Roland D5. Shortly after the D5 a Yamaha RX8 was bought which could trigger bass lines on the D5. This was all very limited until I bought an Alesis MMT-8 and now we could start composing properly. Many more pieces of kit were bought over the years and our friends Dale, Tim, John, Alan, Adam and Paul also had kit that we could all connect up with. Instruments that between us we have owned worth a mention include Roland TB303, TR909, 808, 727, 606, R5, R8, W30, SH09, SH101, MC202, Juno 106, Alpha Juno 2, Teisco 607, Sequential Circuits Pro One, Mini Moog, Yamaha DX100, DX21, CS1X, RY30, Alesis SR16, MMT-8, Emu Emax, Akai S2000, S2800, X7000, Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST. My brother Andy, myself and our good friend Dale had some vinyl out back in the early '90's under the name pH1 with T&B vinyl based in Edinburgh, Scotland. pH1 not only meant strong acid but was also short for perpetual High 1 which was the name I gave to my own solo work. Other names i've called myself over the years are: Sonic Sustained, Total Concept, Z Scan and Klausnikski. After a while pH1 drifted apart but I carried on and I studied sound engineering at the School of Sound Recording (SSR) in Manchester, England in 1998. I really enjoyed my time there and it was where 808 State had recorded who were my favourite band for a few years. Unfortunately nothing really came of my sound engineering in terms of finding work but it really helped me with my own music and gave me a real insight into studios and mixing. Over the years I kept buying and selling equipment on eBay and I had created quite a big hardware based home studio. One day I decided too much money was tied up in it all so I start making music with the computer and I sold all my hardware. Once I had figured out about Cubase SX3 and my computer stopped crashing I was able to really enjoy making new stuff again. With help from Dale and his knowledge I was able to really start to explore the possibilities of computer music. I also got a laptop and got that set up with Cubase 5 which allows me to record both in England and Spain. I would say my first love is Electronica followed closely by Drum and Bass. I am a massive Limbik Frequencies fan and also Fabio & Grooverider on Radio 1. I also try making music in other genres but I always try to keep it pretty mellow and melodic. Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy some of my music.
