About
When an impulse decision back in 2000 found DJ Kimba with a crate of secondhand house vinyl, she instantly had visions of playing the music which had taken her on so many journeys. Luckily for her, she had unlimited access to a mate’s Technic 1210s and it didn’t take long for her to find that she had both technical ability, and a passion for spinning sexy, jackin’ house music! She soon began playing alongside her friends at parties in and around her hometown of Auckland, which in turn led to club gigs, including several appearances at the well known Aisha.
A stint in London followed, giving her the opportunity to truly immerse herself in underground dance music culture. It also exposed her to new delights, such as Techno, which was experiencing something of a renaissance at the time. As she worked this new found love into her repertoire, her sound became bumpier but still retained a certain jackin’ groove, making it more infectious than ever.
DJ Kimba now calling Sydney home, has rocked the decks with an infectious amount of energy when behind them and supported the likes of Stimming, Philip Bader and Guido Schneider. She has appeared at some of Sydney’s rocking-est parties including SPICE, Subsonic Music Festival, End of the Line, S.A.S.H Sundays, [THE BOX], Beats&Pieces, Bare Essentials, Just:Wax, Oscillate, Significant Others, Golden Cage, Church of Techno, BUNKER, Symmetry, SPOiLT, Shake that Monkey and Eclectic Groove Show. Kimba is also known for her residency at Sonunda and CUBE.
