Los Angeles based duo, Matthew Engst (miniTRUE) from Vancouver,Canada & Chau Phan (choBOT) from Detroit (Australian-born) first met in 2007 at an underground UFOlogists meeting. Their fascination with ancient aliens, the space-time fabric, and the paranormal soon blossomed into a passion for creating cosmic Neo 80's Electro Indie Pop. The Duo started collaborating in the legendary Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles and by 2009 landed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, Scandinavia. While recording their debut album in Stockholm, they covered "Puttin’ On The Ritz" which led to a national commercial sync for the Swedish Clothing Co, Lindex and subsequent radio play. By then, Chau also had writing credits with Cyndi Lauper, and Matt had written music for Showtime's up and coming series, Web Therapy (staring Lisa Kudrow). With their sync-friendly sound, more of Killabite will be heard this fall on MTV’s The Buried Life & Jersey Shore and in the feature film, Love & Other Impossible Pursuits (starring Natalie Portman). While in Sweden they had the opportunity to record tracks with some of the countries finest producers including Axwell (Swedish House Mafia), Alexander Kronlund (Robyn, Britney), and Max Martin (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Pink).
Their innocent vocals, vintage synths, electro beats, laser light show, and alternative news inspired lyrics make for an ‘indie-pop dream’. Some of the artists that have influenced Killabite include: The Eurythmics, The Knife, Beck, John & Yoko, Teddybears, Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Daft Punk, and Blondie just to name a few.
