Short Bio:
Thoughtful lyrics and macabre beats are just the tip of the iceberg when referring to Kid Lithium. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Lithium had a creative and musical upbringing. His grandfather was an accomplished trumpet player who established himself in the smoky jazz clubs of the 40's and 50's. Lithium would eventually pick up the horn too but ended up leaving it behind for the electric guitar. A lover of all music, he drew his inspiration from rhythm & blues to classical to country.
In the late 80’s, Lithium was introduced to hip-hop. His early favorites included Run DMC, EPMD, and Doug E Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew. When hip-hop veered its head towards the likes of MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice, Lithium embraced the grunge scene. He began to create heavy guitar compositions with his high school peers and on his own. It wasn’t until his late teens that, while looking to expand his song writing, he started to experiment with samplers and drum machines. Soon after, creating hip-hop beats became an exclusive hobby. With a limited hip-hop network, Lithium would freestyle and pen fierce lyrics over his own instrumental work. As encouragement poured in from his friends, he released his first rap project in the fall of 2005. Later that year he and Bizoid (Lithium's long-time friend and collaborator) founded the East Side Magic and began to crush the Lower Mainland’s hip-hop scene. With an energetic stage presence, Lithium started to pump out a slew of new tracks in his home studio that would later be compiled as the East Side Magic debut album.
‘Lithium and Bizoid Present East Side Magic’ was a landmark album that received critical acclaim locally and in the United States. The album also marked the first time that outside collaborators were featured over Lithium’s production. Since then, Lithium and the Magic have opened up for various international acts and, in 2009, released their sophomore effort titled ‘Fresh Out The Oven’. This album established a 3-member foundation with a previously featured Logical joining the Magic’s ranks. ‘Fresh’ gave equal shine to all 3 rappers and further solidified Lithium’s ever evolving creativity.
‘The First Downloadable Drug’ continues this momentum. Lithium's new solo album proves to be another big step towards his success in music. An ambitious project executively produced by Lithium himself, it maintains a cohesive note often overlooked in modern hip-hop. ‘The First Downloadable Drug’ is now available for free download at http://music.kidlithium.com.
