MsKelle – pronounced Miss Kelly- is an independent singer and songwriter. Born in Germany to diplomat parents, at the age of 10 her family returned to Southern Africa where she currently resides. MsKelle was raised in a musical family with her parents listening to jazz, soul, R&B and fair amount of Sotho music. The product of an upbringing in 80s and early 90’s central Europe, MsKelle became and remains a fan of pop, folk, dance and rock music. She attributes what has today become her ‘sound’ to her early exposure to these diverse genres. When asked how she defines that sound she responds ‘it’s fundamentally soul but its eclectic and edgy. I enjoy experimenting with different genres while still remaining true to my love for soulful sounds’.

MsKelle started writing, recording and performing her music while a humanities student at the University of Cape Town. Although she knew she wanted to follow a career in the music industry, she went on to study and completed her Honours degree at the University of Pretoria, and her Masters at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London in Development Studies. It was during her stay in London that she immersed herself in the musical mélange that is the London music scene and solidified her resolve to take on a career in the music industry.

To date MsKelle has worked with various artists from across the globe lending her voice to various projects including those of South African Xhosa rapper and Sony artist ‘iFani’ and deep house producers ‘Schenk’ and ‘Chris Sen’. In early 2013 MsKelle accepted an exclusive invitation from the Collective Arts Movement in Lesotho and joined Jazz band ‘Friends’ on various tour dates where she showcased her original material. She states; “it was always my intention to work with musicians from Lesotho, to bring it back home”. MsKelle’s music has also received generous radio airplay in Lesotho and in 2013 MsKelle was afforded the opportunity to perform for their majesties the King and Queen of Lesotho and was selected as one of the opening acts for 6 time Grammy Award nominee Nnenna Freelon. MsKelle is currently completing her debut album.
