Not sure either suggestion is exactly what this song wants just tossing out ideas that would make it stick out a bit more :) (If that's what you want).

I'd differentiate this a bit more. As extremes you could think Michael Bolton, or probably better--think of Lionel Richie's bridges which are nearly other songs entirely .

like the lyrics speeding up and that the melody stays really mellow too.
