Kanzler & Wischnewski is an odd couple at first sight. One of them comes from the rather placid Nürnberg, the other one is form the exiting eastern part of Berlin. Although many Bavarians and Berliners would point out cultural differences, the artists share their mutual love for electronic music. The DJ/producer duo’s rapid rise in recent years proves that the venture is working out just fine.

When the two artists met in 2009, they had both already gained experiences as DJs, producers and organizers independently of each other. They managed to release their first record as producers, when they joined forces at starcake records in early 2010. Followed by other digital releases and numerous gigs, they were able to hold their first own vinyl in their hands in the spring of 2011 with the EP About me (by keymono music). Many people have considered them as an established duo ever since and know them for their clearly-structured minimal sound, which is open to other genres.

Their music is characterized by a straightforward sound framework, that may occasionally be merged with dub basses, funky house grooves and samples from folklore to jazz. Often they adorn their songs with Spanish titles such as El Mariachi, (is that due to the impossibility to unite the Berlin and the Bavarian dialect?) a song that is supported by a vibrant bass and accompanied by Spanish guitar sounds.
The duo exemplifies their true drive at their energetic gigs, which are an extravagant mixture of life act and DJ set. Those who attend a Kanzler & Wischnewski set should bring along endurance and open-mindedness, since the duo is not fond of snapshots. It so happens, that a set may last for hours and consist of a few excursions. A glimpse into this year’s upcoming bookings proves, that the duo’s popularity has reached far beyond the borders of Berlin.
