About
Julia A. Noack is a musician based in Berlin.
In 2007, her first album "piles & pieces" was released on the small Berlin label phonector. Rather folky, with a dose of pop and rock, this classic Singer/Songwriter debut was praised by the critics as “enchantingly beautiful” (Kulturnews), “a superb album with longterm character (Kulturwoche), ”a “very varied piece of art” (laut .de), “one of the discoveries of the year” (Melodie & Rhythmus), with songs that “captivate through the unbelievably beautiful and compelling singing” (sally .net).
In May 2010, Julia’s second album 69.9 was released on the label Timezone. On this record, the singing is a bit more edgy, the guitars a bit more disturbing, the lyrics, compositions and arrangements more experimental. The Indie influences have gotten stronger; well used electronic elements keep breaking up the acoustic sound. And: You can hear the band. With a handful of Berlin based musicians who partly accompany her also during live shows, 69.9 is an album that outgrows the classic Singer/Songwriter image.
Again, press and audience are thrilled. The critiques compare her work and her voice to musicians such as Aimee Mann, Nick Drake, Cat Power, Suzanne Vega und Sophie Hunger, and emphasize at the same time her distinctive style and unique voice. This “touching album by an eclectic artist” (cd-kritik), a “colorful mix of sometimes cheerful, sometimes angry, sometimes melancholy Pop” (Brigitte), contains songs with “a truthfulness and splendor that couldn’t be more impressive“(Kulturwoche), and “beautiful moments, in which Julia really gets you” (Intro). The singer herself is called “one of the few Songwriters from Germany who move elegantly and naturally on English speaking ground” (Gaesteliste .de), “a great musician” (Gitarre & Bass), who “crosses the border to the international Singer/Songwriter scene” (cd-kritik).
Julia tours frequently in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria, both solo and with a backing band, and has had various appearances on Radio and TV.
