About
I am Josh Von of Orlando / Portland OR / New York.
I've helped clients out around the world with Ableton Live services. Friends and peeps I have done work for include Brian Transeau (BT), Bill Hamel, John Graham, Involved (Steve and Shari Coe's project), Danny Howells, Nick Warren, AKA 1200, and others.
Starting in 2005 I produced some tracks, put a few records out. I also got pretty deep into the DJ set as art form, using Ableton Live as a tool to harmonize, restructure, and re-edit tracks together in realtime.
I call this non-linear mixing or "shuffle mixing".
What you hear on these sets is me harmonizing tracks, deconstructing them, and re-constructing the pieces into something new as I go. When pulled off well what results is more properly fusing than mixing: shuffle mixing allows for a more seamless and cohesive artistic vibe.
I like to do studio quality mixes. So after mixdown I often do varying degrees of post-production, adding samples and and new instruments and producing additional parts to fit the set.
At one point I developed a 17 inch touchscreen hybrid MIDI hardware controller for doing this live on stage and in the studio, and played gigs around Orlando and Central Florida for a bit.
I've chilled on it the past couple of years other than the DJ sets. But some people have loved what I did - and tell me they still listen to it. They ask me what I've been up to and encourage me to keep the music coming.
So I opened this SoundCloud account to showcase some of the stuff I've done, am doing, and will do.
