I made this track using ONLY DRUMS that i recorded in my Advanced Recording Techniques class.

ALL of the sounds you hear are made from looping tiny portion of either a Kick Drum or a snare drum! I had to create an "interpretive mix" from an acoustic recording of a drum kit and a bass guitar.

The idea was to identify some "artistic paramaters" (rules for myself to follow, for example: create a mix using only EQs, or Gates, or create a whole mix without any processing, etc.)

I thought it would be boring to just mix a drum kit and a bass guitar together with some 'artist paramaters' (plus I couldn't think of any good rules! lol) So I decided to just sample the tracks and create a whole new song instead with a cool technique in Ableton Live's Simpler.

You basically just zoom way in down on the waveform of a sample (Kicks and snares actually work pretty well for this) and loop one full cycle of the waveform, with the beginning and ends of the loop being right on the '0 degrees' line (when the speaker is at rest) This will create a pitched oscillation that is already quite unique, so when you start using filters and envelopes it can get really cool quite quick.. the length of the loop will change the pitch tho so chances are it will not be the exact key you are pressing unless you tune it.

I had a lot of fun with this track I think I will build on it and perhaps use it at my portfolio review when i graduate! :D it would be fun to show people who maybe aren't very familiar with MIDI. I think its pretty cool! haha anyway hope you enjoy
