About
Hailed by New Zealand's National Radio as the pioneer of a new sound, Jordans music has been variously described as "industrial folk", "folk noir" and "Antipodean Steampunk" yet defies any cut and dried description. Imagine a 19th Century Nine Inch Nails banging on old iron and steam powered machines, combined with the Dead Can Dance's electronic folk soundscapes and Sinead Oconnor's vocals in the background.
Jordan combines pioneer-era industrial found sound, with folk instrumentation and etherial vocal melodies. She usually writes "concept" albums with stories, old and new, told song by song. Jordan has had 3 nominations for a national music award, and has had musical involvement with projects as diverse as Cafe Del Mar, Lord of the Rings, and TV series such as Shortland Street.
Jordan's fifth (How the Dead Live) was comissioned by the New Zealand Arts Council to tell the story of one of New Zeand's first pioneers, Susanah Hawes, and her struggle with the character "History". History is not pleased at having to follow a farmers wife to the edges of the earth and at the end of the album, throws Susannah's name in the sea to be forgotten.
