Need a gift for a gifted musician?
I'm Max, a 21 year old psychology student from Australia and I've been writing my own music for quite a while now. I play guitar, but on account of the fact that I don't know how to use any technical programs, and suck at doing anything beyond writing and playing, I make 8-bit music.
I like to think that my influences include Takashi Tateishi, Koji Kondo, Junichi Masuda and Akira Yamaoka, as well as An Endless Sporadic, Computerization, Joe Satriani, Muse, Say Anything, Contradia, Kitsune² and Henry Homesweet. I don't purport to sound anywhere near as good as any of them though :P
To make these songs, I use an outdated version of Powertab and then run the resulting midi file through GXSCC. I have no idea how to put drums tracks in, so bear with them and try not to be too harsh.
Every song that I write has some sort of meaning, and is dedicated to a person, or about an event in my life that has had a significant impact on me. Each track is intended to tell a story and remind me of something, be it good or bad. It's not always obvious exactly who or what the song is about since there's no lyrics and the names are obscure and pretentious, but guessing is all part of the fun.
Anyway, I'm rambling. Have a listen, leave a comment, download it if you find something you like.
I also have a second account where I will be uploading things from 2014 onwards due to the upload restrictions, which can be fond here: JonnyQ2
