Haze Gray © 2014 Jonnie Cook and Lisa West

The fog curling round the trees
    Morning songs in the rains
    Old owl calls at midnight
The watchful gaze of the ocean
The moon forcing his love upon her shores
And the eyes of lost love
What you gave without fear or regret
Stunned, then wounded into depths of which you were unaware
Oh, the listless drone of voices
The breeze brushes back your hair
Then you breathe for the first time in a long while
Tears fight for space in your line of sight
    It's that breeze
Bringing life, all the smells wood, grass, leaves and the buzzing of bees
Those distant waves boasting in a morning fog
    Quieted soul, humble heart
For love is never certain in the haze gray

For me at least, Lisa West is no Faerytale, she's a dream come true. More than just superb technical execution of a vocal part, and the broadest imaginable palette of emotional inflection, her collaborative contribution has rendered an indispensable compositional pairing of lyrics and melody for a guitar piece I wrote 1-1/2 years ago. Faerytale rose to what I was certain would be a tremendous challenge, only to gracefully exceed all expectations I had. This was a pretty good guitar comp before, but now with Faerytale's contribution I don't know what to call it except for a singer's masterpiece.

Thanks to her, I feel this is one you'll never grow tired of... it will instead grow and reveal more with each successive listening. I couldn't think of a genre to adequately express what we have here, so I've conjured up my own headline tag that says what I feel... "Ayre for Sirens". And take extraordinary care listening to her sing this song, you may never return again. :)

Lisa, you dropped me dead in my tracks with this. I am forever grateful!

Once you have listened to this, please visit Lisa's SoundCloud page and listen to much. much more of her musings.
