In fall 2009, I started making "music" with the demo version of FL Studio 8 and also playing keyboards later that year. However, the actual John Smith thing started in 2010 when I had to come up with a name shortly before a performance (this performance included a song called 'Where's My Toothbrush'). The name John Smith sounded cool because it's such a rare and unique name. Then some stuff happened, and in early 2011 a few copies of a raw demo were sold. This demo, now being out of print and somewhat a collectors's item (A REISSUE MIGHT COME IF ENOUGH PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED!!!!!!!11), marked the first ever proper John Smith release. During this time, and especially after that, some sneaky prog and avant-garde influences started to appear in the music, ultimately leading to experiments with complex time signatures (mid-2011 onwards) and microtones (early 2012 onwards). This experimentation still goes on, with complex time signatures being now frequently used in songs.
Also, in 2012, a fabulous Eurorack-format modular synthesizer became a part of the John Smith setup!!!
In 2013 John Smith attended to the Turku Bandstand band competition, playing two times. Footage from the last Bandstand gig (18.3.) might appear in Youtube quite soon!
A proper John Smith album might be made at some point, but at the moment this is a bit unclear. However, demos and other stuff will still occassionally pop up here at Soundcloud.
