About
John Vicious took his love for electronic music from collecting albums to burning-the- decks when he began mixing in 2006. John wanted to do more than to just dance - he
wanted to be part of making music history - took him techno fingers first, into the wide and varied world of Underground Electronic Music. He slipped smoothly under the radar
as a would-be-Dj; partying as usual whilst soaking up the scenes and the sounds, before coming out as a musician with solid groove and sense of self in 2007.
His initial voyage took him through the headspace of Trance; this followed the Techno, Progressive, Psy Trance and Electronica, before finding solace in the simplicity of a
Trippy Progressive Minimal Techno and an intelligently aroused style; which reveal his audience to understand each beat and move with him. His arrangement has been
described as a ‘journey through percussive, ethnic, oriental and progressive techno’ - that latter, that ‘little edgier something’ he unthinkingly douses his sets with mostly, for a
slightly faster and more energetic tempo that uniquely separates him from the spate of die-hard minimalists.
His ‘in deep’ appreciation for music that moves your soul has seen him rise, good naturally, among the ranks and given him recognition as a serious player, influencing
the sounds of the ‘Generation Clash’ that brings young and older clubbers together- through a movement for real and raw dance music. Playing at many of South Africa’s
most highly respected dance arenas including upstairs at Truth nightclub in Johannesburg, Fiction on Long Street and Psynopticz in Cape Town as well as
Teknotribe are high of the ‘to do’ list of any local Techno DJ. Last year saw John tackle all of these opportunities with a flawless vengeance. He plans that these kudos and his
intense drive will put him in the running to platform his career in music at as many major EDM events nationwide as possible, both indoors and outdoors.
John has been billed to play with some of South Africa’s most respected boys in the business, the likes of Emma X, Deadbeat FM, Ivan (Killer Robot), Bruno Morphit (Killer
Robot), Gonzo (Psynopticz), Emoutikon (Psynopticz), Chris Palmer (Teknotribe), Ryan Sullivan (Gut Feel Records), Nick Grater (Teknotribe), Andre Frauenstein, C-Smoothe,
Jimmy Chronic (Sleepwalker Digital), Nick Lumb, Sound Sensible, Karmi, Andi Dill, as well as opening with some “Psy-Tech” for some of Cape Town's biggest Psy Trance acts
- a great achievement that speaks of the time and dedication he’s put into not only his music, but the music and minds of those around him. He is also signed as a PsynOpticz
DJ in Cape Town as well as a Teknotribe residency in Johannesburg: a bright and well deserved achievement.
With a hand in the music production pie as well as Pro Tools and Sound Engineer training complete with distinction, John has his eyes set on the total package. He hopes
to join the realms of influences like; Perfect Stranger, Khainz, Fiord, Astronivo, Freq, Ace Ventura, D-Nox, Beckers, Audiojack, Riktam, Bansi, Ulysse, Paul Ritch, Dufire,
Oliver Huntemann, Elon, Adam Beyer, Anja Schneider, Richie Hawtin, Anton Pieete, Anderson Noise and many more commanding powerful audiences and influencing
dance sects through his “Refined Tech” and symbolic homage to the Electronic Dance Music fanatic's lifestyle - wherever it may take him.
