@Joe Drzewiecki: It's so weird that in this period, 1961, Coltrane was publicly apologizing to the jazz music critics for his work being too based on his technical experimentation. To me, this solo shows that he was connected to some sort of world-wide subterranean emotional cave labyrinth binding all humans into a sea of creative joy. How anyone could say this was sterile and technical is beyond me.

Reminds me of the vibe on Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, that distant rumbling backing guitar and basswork. Very nice. Oh and the solo Sax lines are superb.
