John Murphy is a British film composer from the city of Liverpool. He began composing music for films in the early 1990s, working on several successful British movies including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).
Since 2000, Murphy has been based in Los Angeles. From here, he has worked with some of the industry's most respected and luminary filmmakers, including Danny Boyle, Stephen Frears, Guy Ritchie, Matthew Vaughn and Michael Mann, producing prominent and diverse scores such as 28 Days Later, Miami Vice, Sunshine and Kick-Ass.
In between films he has composed and produced tracks for commercials, for Nike, Audi, Reebok and Apple.
In 2010 he completed the score for Kick-Ass, and after a two-year hiatus, is now working on several non-film projects.
