About

Almost everywhere on the internet I'm known as Jimtopia, however for my music making I have chosen to use the pseudonym "daks." I consider this page my test area for new songs. You can find official releases of my tracks over on my Youtube page.

@JTF_: Thanks man. Just got done listening to some of your stuff and it's quite awesome, think you'd be up for a collaboration sometime?

Overall a good entry and I'm glad that it's something a little bit calmer sounding, it'll be a nice break from the dancey stuff once it's complete.

This definitely needs a different ending, no suggestions come to mind except perhaps fading out all other parts except the drums and just leaving those running for a measure or two after all the synths have stopped.

I absolutely love this part, I think this would make a great beginning to the song actually. Generally I love when people play with the Lopass or Hipass filters on synths, sounds so cool. I'd say add more of that where you can.

The drum seems a little bit harsh for this track, perhaps use a rounder drum or just EQ the high's out of it a little bit.

The 303ish Synth line may actually not be that necessary for this track, I actually really enjoy the simplicity of this one and this synth almost adds a needless complexity to it. Perhaps it'd be more interesting if instead of adding in these new parts you just played with the already existing chords, adding in accompaniment or perhaps switching out some of the chords for 7ths.

I think the vocal "Aah" sample is unnecessary in the track, the synths you use up until this point sound pretty nice on their own.

The track sounds fine both structurally and in it's mastering, my only real problem with it is that I just don't hear any Daft Punk in there. It's a great track but there is nothing about it that reminds me of Daft Punk at all. I believe I've said in the past that my method for determining if the tracks in this project sounded anything like Daft Punk was that I'd listen to the song and listen to the Daft Punk song that I think it sounds closest too and compare and contrast and see if I could find ways for the artist to make their track sound more "daft punk-y." With this track I just don't know what Daft Punk song (or even album) this sounds similar too. If I had to guess I'd say this sounds the closest too TRON but I've explicitly stated several times that I don't want this album to sound anything like TRON.

I guess what it comes down to in my mind is this: What makes this song a 'speculative Daft Punk track' and not just some other electronic music?

(Apologies if this sounds harsh but as this project is winding down I need to be as upfront about things as I can for the sake of time.)
