@Jim Henrickson: Someday *soon I hope. Don't take "rivals any of the other hit-acoustic song" lightly.

@Ar0n: Oh definitely - I'm just recording stuff in my bedroom, and I'm just figuring out mixing as I go along. Maybe someday I'll look into having something professionally recorded. Thanks for the feedback!

This is great, but it's lacking that polish (particularly in the vocals) we hear subconsciously in professionally recorded studio-music. I'm not trying to be a dick with that comment, rather I'm saying that this song rivals any of the other acoustic songs that hit high on the charts that causes every girl to cry out in loving joy when they hear the first notes played, but it's just lacking that polish. I'm not a music guy so I can't really go beyond that, but it's a really really nice piece.

(In case anyone happens to see these comments and wonders how I answered JonO's questions, here's an excerpt from the response I sent)
1) Guitar and strings?
This one was recorded with a Taylor 712 with an L.R. Baggs M1 active soundhole pickup. I believe I have Elixir custom light strings on it right now.
2) Recording equipment or studio stats? Mic...digital recorder...Pro-tools, etc....??
My vocal mic right now is a Rode NT1-A. For this track, I ran that and my soundhole pickup into a Saffire LE audio interface, which runs into a 2007 MacBook (I really need to upgrade that sometime) with Logic Pro 8.
3) Do you tour, play out, share publicly?
I'm currently working on a graduate degree in aerospace engineering, so I've never really had the time to focus on playing out - beyond the occasional open mic. I'd play out more if I could find quieter venues / knew how the whole process worked. My stuff doesn't quite fit in at loud bars, and I've never really been one to publicize my own stuff.
4) How old are you? Sorry, it's important to me, I had to ask
I'm currently 23 -- no worries.
5) Plans for the future?
Professionally, I'd like to work on spacecraft control systems. Hopefully I'll start finding more free time at some point, though, so I can keep developing my songwriting / music interests. Playing small gigs and whatnot would be awesome.
6)Your favorite Pro singer / songwriter
That's a tough one. As far as songwriting goes, I think I have to mention Will Sheff (from Okkervil River) for being lyrically inspirational. I'd say Elliott Smith has had a pretty sizable impact on me as well.

Wow! Please tell me that you are touring and making a living doing this. If not, both you and the world are cheating each other out of experiencing something truly special.
First my comments, then my questions...
1) Lyrics. Great. Just Great! Meaningful in ways that should resonate with many listeners, allowing them to interpret for their own lives and situation. The best songs do this.
2) Your voice. Soothing, honest, and pure - the perfect match for both playing style and lyrical colors.
3) Your playing. Wonderful. My son has been playing guitar for almost a year and is now working hard on his finger-picking. I will share your song with him as an example of the gorgeous outcome of a creative dedication to this style.
