My name is Jessica Simpson and I am 15 years of age. I am currently studying for and taking my GCSE’S at Sherburn High School, Yorkshire.
I am a singer/songwriter and have been performing for many years now. There’s never a time when I don’t sing! Singing is everything to me and always will be.
When I was younger I often used to sing and dance around my room to karaoke tracks from, however when I reached the age of 11 I decided to take things a little more seriously, as my friends and family thought I had something special. I took part in Britain’s Got Talent and even though I didn’t get to the judges auditions it still gave me experience and the confidence to pursue a career in singing.
In 2008 I entered Live and Unsigned and found myself through to the next round. I then went through to the regional finals. It was a great experience and gave me more of a drive to go further.
However my biggest achievement to date was in 2011 and when I entered the Open Mic UK competition. I found myself in the national finals that took place at the indigo O2 in London. It was amazing, working with professionals and being backstage with others that had the same goals and dream as I had it was simply, where I want to be!
Coming 5th out of my category in the UK was something me and my family were incredibly proud of and I will never forget my journey through Open Mic.
Over the last year I have been focussing on my school exams, although I have had the opportunity of spending some time recording in the studio, and have some nice cover songs.
A month or so over Georgina Hill-Brown (from Vocaltutor Artist Development) contacted me via Facebook & YouTube and said I had a very distinctive voice and would like to meet me to discuss my future. After meeting with her and my parents she offered me a contract, a management contract with her herself. My parents and I thought this was an amazing opportunity and could be the boost I need to develop me as an artist.
After accepting the contract Georgina has been fantastic, starting with sorting all my online promotion Inc. all my social media sites (Facebook, reverb, fan pages etc.) gaining many more fans and hits to my videos, to being there for me and giving me all the help and support I need. It’s been a crazy first month however I’ve loved working with her. Cannot wait to see what she has in store for me in 2012!
My goal for the future is not to roll in the money or have the fame but simply to share my music with others. I want people to be able to listen to my music, know of me and enjoy listening to it. I plan to carry on with my schooling and leave with some good GCSE’S then move forward to a music collage. I have already been offered a place at York College, within Access to Music.
I’d love to one day get signed to a record label and continue to produce my own music. I’d love to be able to return a thanks to my family as they are the reason I’m working with people like Georgina and the reason why I’ve been able to enter all these competitions.
I couldn’t ask for better, my family and friends are so supportive and always have been, so to be able to give something back to them would wonderful.
