Jentulman is Phil Rennie, an electronic artist and general electro geek born and bred in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
I am now also producing a regular podcast called the Comfort Conspiracy with two friends featuring our favourite beats, breaks and bass. http://comfortconspiracy.co.uk
He has been musically meandering from an early age, with the usual smattering of school bands and teen angst whinging. Avoiding having had a 'metal' or 'rock' phase at a time when his compatriots and colleagues were listening to Slayer, Megadeath and Pearl Jam Phil was listening to Jungle, House and Electronica. Artists like Aphex Twin, Moby (back when he was good), Atlantic Ocean, Innersphere and The Future Sound of London, and DJ's like Slipmatt, Randall and Sy on the Dreamscapes tape sets have all been influences for the electronic and beat based sounds that he currently creates.
Previously, as Jentulman, Phil has been involved with the erratic yet determined Just These People and Maidenheads enthusiastic and eclectic indie music scene, appearing at events organised by Line Out Records and Just These People's own 'Just This Evening' live experiences.
Phil could also be found out and about providing VJ services to the Reading DnB scene, before being forced by real life to take a break for a couple of years, he is now back VJ'ing with increasing frequency and can occasionally be found at Monkey Suit events pointing a projector at something.
In his only 'real' and independent review today Jentulman was described by Mick Mercer as
"..like some indie gamelan charm school, 'Rocket Kid' just rolling along like silky tumbleweed."
He's taking that as a positive review.
