air to hear collecting digitally produced sound-&-poetry from around the world
A sound poem - my first serious excursion into the genre.
Jeff: words, music and sounds
(08/16/12: well...a couple of days ago, I was reminded that I'd put spoken words and music together back in '96. and that it sounds quite serious. oops.)
UNTROUBLED BY THOUGHT
He can’t see where he’s goin’
and he doesn’t know where he’s been.
Doesn’t care that his head isn’t growin’;
wouldn’t know he isn’t calling the shots.
Heard a wasted life is one not worth living;
doesn’t know why it pertains to him.
May have cared once, but that’s long been hidden
‘cuz his mind is untroubled by thought.
Does he think that he may have been hurtful?
Nope – why would it mean anything?
You might think he’s apt to be spiteful,
but don’t say it’s his fault, ‘cuz it’s not.
Crowds like to shout and point fingers
if someone’s actions are felt to be lacking.
But in him you won’t find a trace of anger,
because his mind is untroubled by thought.
There’s no difference between contrition and full of sin;
he can’t fathom why someone would care.
If the fate of others should fall to him,
would he know what to do – probably not.
When his life just refuses to keep on living,
when his spirit turns around and there’s no one there,
there’ll be no caring in death about reliving
‘cuz like his life, it’s untroubled by thought.

nice solemn guitar loop revolving with a complimenting ambient texture. Is this your first "spoken word" piece ?

Very well done! I like the way the backing and the speech rhythms weave in and out of each other :)

Both together - the voice and the atmosphere working in tandem to animate the words. I like this /Giles

I was really charmed by the music, the voice, it's touching and I'd like to hear more of your sound poems. The idea to write the text is great for those who's English is not the first language.

@M Jeffrey Sampson: I could ramble on quite a bit about the quality of the text, the effectiveness of the reading and the overall impact of the whole thing, but I'm just gonna say it's a fine and powerful piece of work and leave it at that.
